夏志清（1921——2013），1947年赴美，1951年在耶鲁大学取得博士学位。先后执教美国密歇根、纽约州立大学、匹茨堡大学等校。1961年在美国用英文出版了使他一举成名的《中国现代小说史》。1961年任教哥伦比亚大学东方语言文化系，1969年为该校中文教授，1991年荣休后为该校中文名誉教授。
